Introduction
The ABN AMRO Developer Portal is the one-stop shop where we develop and build a secure, social, and ground-breaking digital ecosystem. We enable clients to control their finances and provide a comfortable user experience so that they can make the decisions that are right for them.
By offering API products on our Developer Portal, clients can leverage ABN AMRO's capabilities to reinvent the customer experience, automate processes, and build a future-proof banking solution.
Why nominated?
Best new DX Innovation:
Our ambition is to keep improving the user experience for both business and developer customers. To that end, we recently introduced a new set of "try-it-out" widgets, that create an interactive way to experience the APIs on the Developer Portal. Using the widget feature, users can test the API functionalities easily in a visual and immersive way, for instance to:
• Send a Tikkie (payment request) to their phone
• Experience how transaction data can be retrieved
• Get Foreign Exchange trade information
This empowers every user, from Developers, Product Managers, Sales Engineers, to Executives to get a tangible idea of what can be done with APIs, shortening the time it takes to decide what APIs to use and to improve the overall Developer eXperience.
Best DevPortal beyond REST platforms:
The ABN AMRO Developer Portal is a platform that goes beyond offering REST interfaces. We look at the full (Business) Developer Experience. In the ABN AMRO Developer Community we share knowledge and interesting articles that go beyond APIs:
• We facilitate sharing knowledge between organizations by organizing MeetUps with companies like Netflix, Bol.com, Adyen and Philips.
• We provide a platform that encourages Developers to not just consider our APIs, but for instance, become a bug hunter and help improve our security, become a partner, or consider ABN AMRO as a future employer.
For Developer Portal users, that are interested in APIs specifically, we work on improving the Developer Experience constantly. Next to the standard REST documentation and interface, we offer blogs with use cases, showing how other companies implemented our APIs. This helps the user understand the API and think practically about what it could do for them.
As our new widget feature matures, we believe it will further enable (non-technical) users to imagine, design, and later maybe even create digital experiences (through low/no-code widgets that customers can copy/paste into their websites) without the help of a developer. By interacting with the API through the widget, users with any background can start to build their own digital experience. By implementing this new feature the DevPortal takes a huge step towards making digital interfaces generally accessible to a wider audience.
Best API Reference Documentation:
At ABN AMRO, we pride ourselves on the quality of our API documentation and support. In our API reference documentation, we use a docs-as-code workflow to create, review, and publish specifications. We provide information on requirements, production and sandbox access, tutorial help, and authentication.
