Introduction
Natura & Co. is the world's fourth-largest beauty company, encompassing the brands Natura, Avon, The Body Shop, and AESOP.
Renowned for its innovation, transparency, and active involvement in the ESG agenda, the company employs 35,000 staff members across its four brands. It operates in 110 countries, boasts a network of over 8 million consultants and representatives, and manages more than 3,700 stores and franchises.
In this dynamic global setting, characterized by multiple brands and platforms, technology plays a pivotal role. In 2016, we began the journey of revising Natura’s technology architecture to make it more open, connected, and scalable. Adopting open-source technologies, leveraging cloud infrastructure, implementing microservices, and harnessing the power of APIs.
A Developer Portal was developed in collaboration with Sensedia, the largest API company in Latin America and a strategic partner of Natura since 2016.
Currently, the portal is being utilized by over 300 developers, 100 testers, and more than 50 DevOps engineers and SREs. Additionally, a community of startups and partners has access to the portal, promoting innovation and the testing of hypotheses to generate new business opportunities within the beauty sector.
The Developer Portal serves as the company's centralized developer repository, encompassing a total of over 115 APIs. All documentation is internally accessible, streamlining the onboarding process for new developers and partners. Public APIs undergo a stringent selection and governance process. Once chosen for publication, API documentation, secure development best practices, and execution flows are all made available on the public portal. To foster innovation within the global beauty ecosystem, we opened the portal to the community in 2022 and initiated pilot programs that integrate our digital assets and products with new beauty services (open beauty). Presently, Sensedia’s APIs experience an average monthly traffic of 2-3 billion calls.

Our new API reference is built upon the OpenAPI specification and has been meticulously crafted from scratch, free from any external dependencies.
