NOMINEE OVERVIEW

The ABN AMRO Developer Portal is the one-stop shop offering a secure, digital ecosystem. The developer portal enables users to control, innovate, and automate their finances and provide a comfortable user experience so they can make the decisions that are right for them.

The API products on the Developer Portal, enable users to leverage ABN AMRO's capabilities to reinvent the customer experience, automate processes, and build a future-proof banking solution. The portal offers a full user experience, from inspiration to integration and beyond. It extends beyond publishing API specification: it helps users progress from initial exploration and product evaluation to implementation, production access, and continued use.

Over the past year, the ABN AMRO Developer Portal has undergone a series of research-driven improvements designed to better serve developers, partners, and business users. Through research (user research, analytics, stakeholder engagement, and market analysis) we identified opportunities to simplify user journeys, improve discoverability, strengthen content experiences, and enhance overall usability. As a result, we introduced improvements across navigation, information architecture, account management, content delivery, communication, branding, and publishing processes. These changes provide a scalable foundation for continuous improvement of discoverability, onboarding, support, and the wider developer experience.

NOMINATION RATIONALE

1) BEST API PRODUCT MICROPORTAL INSIDE A DEVELOPER PORTAL

Why is this category a strong match?

The ABN AMRO Developer Portal is organised around API products and what it can do for users. Each API product functions as a focused microportal where developers and business stakeholders can understand the product’s purpose, business value, use cases, integration requirements, documentation, release notes, support options, and next steps.

Every API has multiple types of content reflected when the API is clicked. The product overview explains why the capability exists, for whom it is relevant and how it fits into a broader business or customer journey. It offers context in use cases and gives a next step for exploring implementation. The documentation gives users the technical information needed for implementation. Release notes offer context between versions, and Tutorials give a practical guide on how to integrate. Users can find all API related content in one page, being able to switch context according to their specific needs. Offering a micro product portal, while remaining part of the wider ABN AMRO Developer Portal, retaining consistent navigation, design, account services and support.

This balance between a distinctive product journey and a shared enterprise platform makes the portal a strong match for the API Product Microportal category.

In what ways does your portal shine in this category?

Each API product brings together information that would otherwise be distributed across technical, business and operational channels:

  • A business-oriented product introduction and value proposition.
  • Relevant use cases and customer context.
  • Technical specifications and supporting documentation.
  • Tutorials or implementation information where available.
  • Application registration and environment information.
  • Production-access guidance.
  • Product-specific release notes.
  • API-level Status and Maintenance information.
  • Support routes and related communications.

The redesigned information architecture improves the connection between portfolio discovery and the individual product experience. The separation of release notes and tutorials from the specification makes ongoing product changes and guide to implementation more visible. Improved content and publishing processes also help maintain consistency between the different product experiences.

2) BEST UNIFIED OR FEDERATED ENTERPRISE DEVELOPER PORTAL

Why is this category a strong match?

ABN AMRO operates a growing portfolio of API products for customers, partners, fintechs, third-party providers, and other organisations. API products are owned by different business domains and product teams within ABN AMRO. The ABN AMRO Developer portal makes sure to provide one coherent and recognisable experience across these products.

The ABN AMRO Developer Portal unifies business and technical perspectives and provides a single point of entry for users. It connects API product value, use cases, onboarding requirements, API documentation, application management, release information, operational status, and support. Users can explore the portfolio from a business need and continue into the technical information and processes needed to integrate, and vice versa.

The portal has a consistent information architecture and ABN AMRO experience, while allowing different products to offer different capabilities and content. This balance between enterprise-wide consistency and product-specific context makes the portal a strong fit for the unified or federated enterprise category.

In what ways does your portal shine in this category?

The portal creates a shared experience for audiences with different levels of API knowledge. Business users can understand capabilities, value and use cases, while developers can proceed to specifications, tutorials, release notes, testing, and application management.

Recent improvements make the experience more cohesive and usable:

  • Redesigned information architecture and navigation structure with improved content integration and new Explore and News sections.
  • Updated ABN AMRO branding across the portal.
  • Better user experience due to separation between API documentation, Release notes, and Tutorials.
  • Greatly improved UI for logged-in users.
  • Streamlined publishing process using repository-to-portal integration.
  • Better Status and Maintenance experience providing a dashboard with information at API level.
  • Simplified support flow via unified production access form for all APIs.

These changes are supported by a scalable publishing and governance approach. API product teams provide product-specific content, while common structures, processes and design patterns help create consistency across the wider portfolio.

3) BEST REIMAGINED ONBOARDING EXPERIENCE IN A DEVELOPER PORTAL

Why is this category a strong match?

User research showed that users require clear journeys, contextual guidance, simple navigation and as less friction as possible when moving from API discovery to implementation. Therefore, we have redesigned the portal around user goals rather than around the organisation’s internal structures.

The user journey connects product discovery, product evaluation, documentation, account creation, application registration, sandbox access, production-access information, support and continued communication. By presenting these elements as parts of one journey, the portal helps users understand not only what an API does, but what they need to do next.

This is especially important because the portal serves experienced and beginner API developers as well as business-oriented users and organisations that may be working with banking APIs for the first time. We aim to provide each audience with enough context and confidence to progress to the next step.

In what ways does your portal shine in this category?

The redesign improved several points at which users previously risked losing context or confidence:

  • Navigation and information hierarchy were restructured around user needs.
  • The logged-in account overview was consolidated to make applications and associated information easier to find.
  • Explore was introduced for users that are in the discovery phase
  • Release notes and Tutorials were separated from specifications, improving their visibility during ongoing integration and maintenance.
  • Status and Maintenance communication was improved providing a dashboard with information at API level.
  • Improvements to the support flow help users get targeted support when needed during the full journey, from business request to production access.

Together, these changes reduce fragmentation between discovery, technical evaluation, account management and ongoing support. They also make the onboarding experience more approachable for users who are not deeply familiar with APIs or banking terminology.
